Welcome to CFN 107's Teacher PODS Page

Professional Ongoing Development Structures (PODS) are CFN 107's answer to the Department of Education's question: how are we going to support our network schools in implementing the Common Core aligned instructional expectations?  We began PODS in the 2011-12 school year and will continue and expand our work in the current school year. PODS allow us to streamline DOE initiatives as well as help build a network community where we can learn from one another.

At CFN 107, in addition to supporting and developing schools at the administrative level, primarily through our monthly Principals' Meetings, we have chosen to work directly with teachers. Last year we worked with a select group of two teachers from each school on developing and implementing a math/science and a English/social studies unit of study. These Common Core aligned units meet the citywide expectations and allow CFN 107 achievement coaches to develop key teachers to spread their work within their schools. We will continue this leadership development this year but also expand our Common Core unit work to all major subject area teachers (math, science, english and social studies).

Last year, our first teacher PODS meeting and kick-off event was on Thursday, October 6th from 4-6 pm, at Brooklyn HS of the Arts.  Our 23 schools affiliated into 4 different PODS, each one run by a CFN 107 Achievement Coach. PODS met twice a month to study common core aligned unit-planning and work.  Units were implemented from February to May 2012. This year we will work with teacher teams directly during the school day to write and implement two CC-aligned units of study in each of the major subject areas. One unit will be taught in the fall semester and one in the spring semester. Check out our PODS pages for more detailed information.
