Next Generation Science Standards for Today’s Students and Tomorrow’s Workforce:  Through a collaborative, state-led process managed by Achieve, new K–12 science standards have been developed that are rich in content and practice, arranged in a coherent manner across disciplines and grades to provide all students an internationally benchmarked science education. The NGSS is based on the Framework for K–12 Science Education developed by the National Research Council.

Visit the NGSS website to download the new standards and explore video explanations and other resources.

Dr. Maria Grant's Next Generation in the Science Classroom PDs

May 13 & 14, 2013

Dr. Maria Grant, associate professor in secondary education at California State University, Fullerton, conducted an excellent one day workshop for the science teachers in our network. We hope to have her back next year for continued support in science instruction. Click here to access her powerpoint from that day.

Feb. 26 & 27, 2014: Session One

Dr. Maria Grant returns continued her work with secondary science teachers around the NGSS and Literacy work in the Science classroom. Here is a copy of her powerpoint from Session One.

May 21 & 22, 2014: Session Two

In session two of our Science PD, teachers analyzed student science writing, learned about the gradual release of responsibility and practiced crafting lesson plans among other things. Here is a copy of her powerpoint for the day.

Upcoming PDs.....

Stay tuned for more Science PD offerings in the 2014-15 school year!
