CFN 107 is committed to make sure that everyone one of our schools is working towards accomplishing the task of unpacking the New Common Core State Standards. To this end, we have comprised a series of professional development workshops and support for our schools:

Summer 2010: Common Core State Standards Summer Institute

Principals and faculty had a opportunity to attend a 2 day institute at Beacon High School where they were exposed to the new Common Core State Standards that New York along with 47 other states has adopted.  Below are the supporting documents from the institute.

December 2010: “Math Moves”: Integrating Discussion into Your Practice
This workshop helped math teachers, leads, coaches and supervisors integrate different mathematical practices in order to meet the new mathematical standards.

February 2011: Tweaking Tasks: to increase Rigor
CFN 107 proudly ran our second Saturday Common Core workshop. On Saturday, February 5th we offered a workshop that focused on English Language Arts and how to “tweak”  existing tasks to increase rigor.

March 2011: Curriculum Mapping: Integrating the Common Core State Standards
                       with Heidi Hayes Jacobs
Principals and faculty will have an opportunity to reflect on their current curriculum maps/pacing calendars to incorporate the Common Core State Standards.

AUSSIE Content Area Teacher Development
Content Area teachers will make the transition to integrating literacy and the CCSS into their daily practice. The first steps will be: unpacking the standards for the content areas, understanding the shift in practice, identify the moments of congruency and the implications for continued practice. This group will meet twice a month until the end of the school year to cover these topics.
